Fresh Outta The Oven

Our sweet Adriaan arrived last Tuesday the 2nd of July.  Today was his due date and I am so grateful that he came early.  So here's the short version... I woke up that morning around 3am for a potty break.  When I went back to bed I had a feeling that I should sleep on a towel.  I knew it seemed pretty silly but I did it anyways.  At 5:15am I opened my eyes and about 30 seconds later my water broke.  The towel was just one of the many tender mercies that I experienced that day.  Before we left for the hospital I had Josh give me a Priesthood blessing.  It was a tender moment and the blessing was much needed.  I am SO grateful for my sweetheart and for his goodness.  We officially checked in at Salt Lake Regional at 7:45am.  Josh was a great supporter the entire time.  I was grateful to get an epidural and then I was able to rest for a little while.  The nurse came in and had me push for a while to get a hang of it.  After getting a hang of pushing for a bit the doctor arrived.  I pushed through two contractions and then my doctor said, "this baby is coming on the next contraction."  Sure enough Adriaan made his entrance into this world at 11:01am during the third contraction. 

I could make a huge list of tender mercies and blessings that I have experienced during this past week.  Heavenly Father is so good to me and my family.  I am grateful to have this healthy boy in my life.  I feel great and recovery has been amazing.  I found out yesterday that Adriaan does not like tummy time (picture).  My favorite part of the day is when he's with Daddy for storytime.  I like to get ready before Josh has left for work.  So I hand him off and they read stories together.  Today I caught them sleeping through storytime (picture).  Silly Daddy, he stayed up too late last night.  I love motherhood already.  Everything that I do for this sweet boy everyday is done with love.  I'm so happy to be starting this new adventure in our lives...Oops gotta go!  Baby just wet through his outfit and through my pants!  :)

On Wednesday, May 18th, I woke up with a sore throat.  I didn't have much of a voice either.  Josh got Samuel up and mentioned that Samuel had been coughing a bit.  I thought to myself, 'here we go again'.  I swear we haven't been able to catch a break from sickness or injury this year. While I was getting ready for the day, Samuel walked into my bathroom.  He started coughing a bunch and then choking.  I didn't know that he had shared a doughnut with Daddy right before he walked in to see me.  The doughnut had walnuts sprinkled on top.  I thought he was about to throw up (I didn't realize he was choking on a walnut).  So I immediately held him over the sink.  After not breathing for a short second or two, he coughed out a small bit of food (aka. the walnut).  The moment was tense, but I was relieved when he was breathing and acting normal again.  Our morning routine continued and I quickly forgot about the intense choking mo...

Growing Up

If you were to ask me what I constantly struggle with... it is CHANGE .   I find comfort in schedules, routines and expectations that periods of my life have to offer.  Whenever I turn the page to a new chapter in my life, I am faced with a great sense of insecurity and hesitation.  Now that I am crossing through a new threshold, I've realized that I still haven't grown up. I taught for two years and just finished my last day of school on the 7th.  I am leaving something behind that I am very passionate about... TEACHING .  It is hard for me to let go of the known and step out into the unknown.  I was very prayerful about my decision to become a  mommy and have the time to stay at home.  This is what I have always wanted and I know that it is the right decision for our family.  But it doesn't make the transition easy.  I put so much work and time into teaching and let's be honest... a whole lotta heart.  I spent our last few min...

Highlights & Lowlights

2017 was beautifully orchestrated with many highs and lows.   Josh: Grew out his facial hair and he loved it. Continued working at Colmek. Continued in his church calling as the Assistant Financial Clerk. Hiked to the peak of Mt Timpanogos. Ran a Half Marathon Josh is the glue to our crazy family.  Sarah: Had our 3rd baby boy. Celebrated 10 yrs since graduating from Viewmont. Continued in my church calling as Primary President. Organized a Fundraiser Yard Sale with two days notice.  We raised just over $2k for our close friends. Experienced my 1st pedicure.  Started my 3rd year teaching preschool in my home.  Fine-tuned my ability to plan meaningful, but cheap family activities. I have struggled with a range of feelings and emotions this year.  Motherhood is not easy.   My ongoing goal is to learn self-control.     Adriaan: Turned 4 in July.
